FAMILY AND MEDICAL LEAVE (FMLA)

The Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 (FMLA), provides to eligible employees a total of twelve (12) work weeks of “job-protected” paid and/or unpaid leave during any twelve (12) month period for:

• The birth of a child and the care of a newborn
• The placement of a child for adoption or foster care
• To care for a parent, child or spouse with a serious health condition
• The employee’s own serious health condition

It is the policy of Wildlife and Fisheries to use the appropriate paid leave, i.e., sick or annual, when available. If the appropriate leave is not available then leave without pay will be granted while under FMLA.
