EMPLOYMENT >> CAREER OPPORTUNITIESWildlife Enforcement AgentA career in wildlife law enforcement can be a fascinating, challenging and demanding field. It requires an individual to be self-reliant, as well as a team-player. A love of the outdoors combined with an acute interest in law enforcement are some of the personal traits found in today's wildlife enforcement agents. Agents spend a large portion of their time patrolling alone without the assistance of other officers. On other occasions, the ability to work in an organized team is essential to the success of the enforcement program. Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Enforcement Agents are an important component in the preservation of the state's natural resources. This division is responsible for enforcing federal and state laws relative to fish and wildlife resources, boating safety, and regulations pertaining to migratory birds and endangered species. Agents ensure that hunters, anglers, boaters, dealers, breeders, farmers, and transporters are in compliance with regulations governing equipment, quotas, licenses, and registrations. Agents also assist other State departments and law enforcement agencies in the coordination of educational and professional endeavors, as well as national and state emergency alerts by the Federal Office of Emergency Preparedness. In addition, agents perform search and rescue missions alone or in conjunction with other local, state, and federal agencies. Applicants for Wildlife Enforcement Cadets must be at least 18 years of age, and must possess a valid Driver's License, and must meet the minimum qualifications.
