WILDLIFE ACTION PLANEssential Points of the Wildlife Action Plan (Comprehensive Wildlife Conservation Strategy)
Click Here to See a Slide Presentation Overview.
What is the Comprehensive Wildlife Conservation Strategy? To establish eligibility for SWG funds, each State, Territory, or other jurisdiction must submit by October 1, 2005, a Comprehensive Wildlife Conservation Strategy (CWCS). Included in the SWG legislation was a list of eight elements that are to be addressed within the CWCS. The Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is the agency charged with completing this conservation strategy for Louisiana. We are coordinating its development with state and federal agencies, conservation groups, industry, and the general public. Our goal is to develop a strategy which reflects the knowledge, expertise, and priorities of people who work daily to understand the issues, challenges, and threats to our diverse fish and wildlife species. This strategy will provide an essential foundation in how this department will operate in the future in managing and conserving Louisiana’s wildlife and fisheries resources.
