Double-Rig Line

The “double-rig” line is described in state statute and describes those waters with Breton and Chandeleur Sounds whereby one or two trawls, either or both which cannot exceed 65 feet along the corkline and 82’ feet along the lead line in addition to one test trawl may be used.  The LDWF often uses the double rig line for shrimp management purposes, particularly to delineate those waters within Breton and Chandeleur Sounds whereby the shrimp season has been open or extended. The following description of the “double-rig” line is taken from LA R.S. 56:495.1

§495.1. Trawling vessels; size of trawls; butterfly nets
