SALTWATER FISHINGTo plan your next fishing excursion, review the current data on regulations, seasons and marinas. Marine Recreational Fisheries Statistics SurveyLouisiana also collects recreational landings data through participation in the Marine Recreational Fisheries Statistics Survey (MRFSS). The MRFSS survey consists of two independent surveys which are a Telephone Survey and an Intercept Survey. Data obtained from the Telephone Survey is used to estimate the total number of marine recreational fishing trips taken by residents of coastal areas. The Intercept Survey is conducted by interviewing anglers at fishing sites as they complete their fishing trips. Data obtained from the Intercept Survey is used to estimate average catch per trip, the species composition of the catch, and the weight by species of the catch. The data collected from both of these surveys is then combined to provide an estimate of the total catch of marine recreational anglers. |
