RESEARCH HUNTING PROGRAMS

ANNUAL HARVEST SURVEY

A random sample of hunters are selected each year to determine the statewide deer kill and other deer hunting statistics. The harvest survey also requests information regarding the harvest of small game animals, upland game birds including wild turkeys, waterfowl, dove and other migratory birds.

Opinion questions often are used to determine the attitudes and needs of the hunting community. The survey also provides the opportunity for the public to comment on all aspects of hunting and wildlife management.

The survey is a 6% sample of each parish's basic resident license holder. A single mailing is used and 95% confidence intervals are established for each estimate. The LSU Department of Experimental Statistics provided assistance with survey design and harvest calculations.
