Free Bowfishing Permit Required for Private and Charter Anglers

A recreational saltwater bowfishing permit is now required for private and charter bow fishermen. The permit is free of charge and will be valid one year from the date issued. The permit can be obtained only online through the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries’ website.

The Big Bass Rodeo and Fishtival is Around the Corner

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) and New Orleans City Park Conservancy are hosting the 75th annual Big Bass Rodeo and Fishtival in New Orleans City Park on Saturday, March 23rd, 2024. Sign up for the oldest freshwater fishing rodeo in the nation with a fishing category for every age and a FREE family friendly Fishtival. The day also includes the Battle for the Bass, a student fishing tournament, and Boats on the Bayou – a kayak and non-motorized vessel tournament on Bayou St. John.

The Winners of License Card Contest Have Been Announced

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries would like to congratulate Scott Black and Jeff Perot for winning the LDWF durable license card contest. Their images will be available as optional upgrades for our license holders.

Commercial Fishing License and Trip Ticket Staff Coming to an Office Near You

Beginning next month, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries will offer new or renewal commercial fishing licenses and boat registration transactions at field offices. LDWF offers this service as a convenience to our commercial fishermen who need a commercial licenses and in-person assistance without having to drive to Baton Rouge.

Speckled Trout Limits Have Been Changed

The new speckled trout size and daily creel limits go into effect and will be enforced beginning November 20. The new regulations are as follows: - Size limit: 13-20 inches total length, only two fish included within the daily creel limit can be greater than 20 inches total length - Daily Creel: 15-fish daily limit per angler - Charterboat guides and crew will not be able to retain a creel limit while on a charter trip but may engage in fishing
