Task Force Overview

The framework for the Louisiana Feral Hog Management Advisory Task Force was created during the 2016 Regular Session of the Louisiana Legislature by House Concurrent Resolution No. 09  

The purpose of the Louisiana Feral Hog Management Advisory Task Force (LFHMATF) is to advise the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF), the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry (LDAF), the Wildlife and Fisheries Commission and the Louisiana Legislature on matters pertaining to the management and control of feral hogs in Louisiana

Goals of the Louisiana Feral Hog Management Advisory Task Force are to:

1.  Provide direction to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry relative to the control and eradication of feral hogs in Louisiana

2.  Provide suggestions to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries on spending $360,000 earmarked by the Louisiana Legislature for education, research, and control of eral hogs during FY 2016-2017

Specific objectives:

1.  To identify and prioritize problems and issues pertinent to feral hogs in Louisiana

2.  To recommend solutions that will reduce feral hog populations and damage based upon sound biological and economic principles

3.  To take appropriate steps, such as preparation of proposed legislation, to resolve problems and issues

4.  To support outreach and education pertinent to feral hog damage issues in Louisiana

5.  To support research pertinent to new or more effective control methods for feral hogs in Louisiana

6.   To consider hunter-based feral hog control solutions

7.   To gather input from various stakeholder groups
