The Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission passed a resolution that adds 7,403 acres to Maurepas Swamp Wildlife Management Area (WMA), located along the south shore of Lake Maurepas, at their Oct. 6 meeting.
The addition brings the total acreage of Maurepas Swamp WMA to nearly 70,000 acres.
All WMAs in the state are managed by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) in order to enhance habitat in the state and provide for public and recreational opportunities.
The 7,403 acres were added by a free lease agreement by LDWF and the Conservation Fund, a private non-profit organizaion from Arlington, Virginia.
