The Sherburne Wildlife Management Area (WMA) South Farm Complex will once again be open for lottery waterfowl hunts during the 2006-07 hunting season.
The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) has scheduled the hunting dates on the WMA for Nov. 18, Dec. 2, 16, 23, 30, and Jan. 6, 13, 20 and 27. Applications for these lottery waterfowl hunts are due on Oct. 6.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old to participate in the lottery. In addition to these pre-application hunts, which are all on Saturdays, lottery hunts will also be conducted on Tuesday and Thursdays during the season. On-site drawings will be conducted at 4:30 a.m. each Tuesday and Thursday for these hunts.
A $5 non-refundable check or money order made payable to LDWF is required with each application. Only one application per hunting date and three total applications for the hunting season are allowed per applicant. Applications can be mailed to Sherburne WMA Waterfowl Lottery Application, Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, P.O. Box 98000, Baton Rouge, LA 70898. Applications are available at any region office or at LDWF's Web site by clicking this 2006 Sherburne Waterfowl Lottery Hunt Application link.
Successful applicants will be notified by mail and required to submit an additional $10 check or money order. Winners can invite two guests for the hunt. Upon receipt of the payment, three permits will be mailed to the chosen applicant. Winners must arrive on the site by 4:30 a.m. and hunts will be completed by noon.
All hunters must have appropriate licenses, including federal duck stamps, WMA hunting permits and Harvest Information Program (HIP) permits. No licenses will be available at the hunting site. Additionally, a self-clearing daily permit (free) must be completed and will be available at the lottery hunt site.
