WHAT:  Bass Restocking for Red River; 58,000 Florida largemouth bass (5 to 7- inch phase II fingerlings) will arrive by truck at Grand Ecore Landing in Natchitoches then be divided and released into five pools on the Red River. 

WHO: The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) Inland Fisheries Division will release the bass that were procured with a $50,000 donation from the Red River Waterways Commission (RRWC).  The Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Foundation (LWFF) purchased the fingerlings on behalf of the RRWC.  This is the sixth consecutive year the RRWC has donated money to restock the Red River with bass.

WHEN: Dec. 13, 2006; the bass will arrive at Grand Ecore landing north of Natchitoches at 7:30 a.m.

HOW: The bass be split up into five lots; 1/5 will be released at Grand Ecore Landing and the other four will leave Natchitoches by truck at approximately 8:30 a.m. and travel to the other pools along the Red River.

WHY: To help introduce the Florida largemouth bass superior genetic traits to the Red River to improve both the quality and quantity of the catch for La. anglers.


Pool 1: Broulliette Recreation Area Landing - Take La. Hwy. 452 north from Marksville, continue for six miles to Boat Ramp Road, on left. Cross over levee into recreation area.

Pool 2: Fort Buhlow Recreation Area Landing -- From Alexandria, cross the O.K. Allen Bridge,  (US Hwy. 71 and La. 165) proceed north for one mile, turn left on road immediately north of state Weigh Station identified by highway sign Ft. Buhlow Recreation Area. Stay on road for one mile, turn right into recreation area.

Pool 3: Grand Ecore -- From Natchitoches, head east on La. 6, turn left at Corps of Engineers Welcome Center, just prior to Red River Grand Ecore bridge. Follow Tauzin Island Road to launch.
7-7:30 a.m. - Tempering of fish
7:30-8:30 a.m. - Loading of fish onto hauling trucks
8:30 a.m. - Trucks depart to pool sites

Pool 4: Coushatta Landing - From the intersection of US Hwy. 84 and 371 in Coushatta, turn west on Carroll St. Follow Carroll St. to the intersection with Abney St. Turn right on Abney St. and proceed to entrance to park.

Pool 5: Clark's Landing -- Located near Elm Grove, from Shreveport take US Hwy. 71 south to Elm Grove, go approximately 2.5 miles past Elm Grove to J. T. White Road, take right on J. T. White Road.  Clark's is located at the end of J. T. White Road.
