EVENT:  Black Bear Cub Returning to Louisiana After Rehabilitation in Tennessee

BACKGROUND: A Louisiana black bear cub, near starvation when found last November in St. Mary Parish, has been rehabilitated in Tennessee at the Appalachian Bear Rescue Center.  Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries' (LDWF) biologists will conduct the release in the Concordia Parish wildlife management area.  LDWF's Black Bear Program oversees the restoration and management of the species, which has been listed as threatened since 1992.


DIRECTIONS: From Alexandria: take La. 1 south to Lettsworth; then proceed north from Lettsworth on La.15; Red River WMA headquarters is at the intersection of La. 910 and La. 15 in Shaw (look for Red River WMA headquarter sign).


From Baton Rouge: take US Hwy. 190 to La. 1; head north to Lettsworth; then proceed north from Lettsworth on La.15; Red River WMA headquarters is at the intersection of La. 910 and La. 15 in Shaw (look for Red River WMA headquarter sign).
