L.W.F.C. PROPOSES BLACK BASS SIZE LIMIT SUSPENSION FOR YOUTH ANGLERS OVER MEMORIAL AND LABOR DAY WEEKENDS

Release Date: 10/31/2007

The Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission voted on a notice of intent that would suspend size restrictions on black bass during the Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends, for anglers under 16 years of age in the Atchafalaya Basin, Lake Verret-Palourde and Lake Fausse Point-Dauterive areas, at their Nov. 1 meeting.

The suspension would be effective from sunrise on each opening day extending until midnight on each closing day.  The actual dates of the suspension would be May 24-26 and Aug. 30 to Sept. 1, 2008.

Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Inland Fisheries staff brought the notice of intent to the commission in an effort to increase participation in outdoor activities by the state's youth.

People can submit written comments on the proposed notice of intent to Gary Tilyou, Administrator, Inland Fisheries Division, Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, P.O. Box 98000, Baton Rouge, LA 70898-9000 no later than close of business on Jan. 3, 2008.
