SHERBURNE W.M.A. SOUTH FARM AREA CLOSED DUE TO GAS WELL FIRE NEAR INTERSTATE 10

Release Date: 11/21/2007

The South Farm area of the Sherburne Wildlife Management Area (WMA) has been closed to all activities until further notice due to its close proximity to the gas well blowout located near Interstate 10 at Ramah.  The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is keeping the remainder of the Sherburne WMA complex open for public use at this time.

For safety and health reasons, the Louisiana State Police have restricted all activities within 1/4 mile of the blowout location.  Contractors on site are working to get the well fire under control and the well capped.  Until the well is capped, the South Farm area will remain closed to all activities.

The South Farm area of the Sherburne WMA is located about 1 mile north of the Ramah Exit off I-10.
