Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries' Secretary Robert Barham will serve as honorary Admiral at the 60th Empire-South Pass Tarpon Rodeo, Aug. 14-16.
"It's encouraging to see this event return to the summer tournament schedule after being disrupted for nearly three years," said Barham. "I'm proud to participate in this renewed competition that had become a summer tradition."
The lower Plaquemines Parish event returns to Delta Marina in Empire for the event.
Hurricane Katrina's devastating impact to the region halted the second oldest competitive fishing event in the state.
"The will of our residents and those who visit us is what brought the rodeo back," said Plaquemines Parish Sheriff Jiff Hingle, an event board member. "Few places in the world have had as much on the table as Plaquemines Parish, but it's time for it to happen again."
Featured competition categories include tarpon, wahoo, dolphin, tuna, amberjack, cobia, mangrove snapper, black drum, flounder, redfish, sheepshead and speckled trout. Kid's Division categories include redfish, speckled trout, flounder, sheepshead and black drum.
