The Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission approved a notice of intent to establish a list of domesticated aquatic organisms approved for aquaculture at their Aug. 7 meeting.
The proposed list of fish included only those species currently allowed. This list of approved species will be needed before Jan. 1, 2009, when the current list will be deleted from law.
The domesticated aquatic organisms list for aquaculture would be:
Shadow, white and yellow bass not exceeding a maximum total length of 3 inches.
Crappie and bream not exceeding a total maximum length of 3 inches.
Spotted and striped bass not exceeding a total maximum length of 10 inches.
Largemouth bass of any size.
Hybrid striped bass of any size.
Coppernose bluegill of any size.
Hybrid bream limited to a bluegill and green sunfish cross or redear sunfish and bluegill cross of any size.
Carp, freshwater drum, buffaloes, golden shiner, fathead minnow of any size.
Triploid grass carp
Public comment on this notice of intent can be made to Gary Tilyou, Administrator, Inland Fisheries Division, Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, PO Box 98000, Baton Rouge, LA 70898-9000 no later than 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 2.
