Saturday, Sept. 26 marks the 25th annual Louisiana National Hunting and Fishing Day (NHFD) in Baton Rouge. The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) will also host outdoor NHDF events in Minden, Monroe and Woodworth.

"Our events this Saturday provide a great opportunity to introduce a friend or family member to a variety of outdoor activities," said LDWF Secretary Robert Barham. "The department's staff, along with volunteers and supporting sponsors, always make this a special early fall event that all ages can enjoy."

The Baton Rouge NHFD will be held at the Waddill Outdoor Education Center located at 4142 N. Flannery Road from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, contact the LDWF public information office at 225-765-2800.

Minden's NHFD will take place at the Bodcau Wildlife Management Area (WMA) off of Bodcau Dam Road in Bossier Parish north of Shreveport from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information on Minden's NHFD event, please call 318-371-5210.

Monroe's NHFD will take place at LDWF's District 2 Headquarters at 368 Centurytel Dr. in Monroe from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Please call 318-343-1241 for more information on the Monroe area NHFD.

The Woodworth area NHFD has events scheduled at LDWF facilities in Forest Hill and Woodworth. Youths 15 years of age and younger can fish from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. at the Beechwood Fish Hatchery located at 41 Fowler Road in Forest Hill. Then the rest of the activities will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Woodworth Education Center located at 661 Robinson Road. For more information, please call 318-484-2276.

The Baton Rouge event offers hands-on activities including canoeing, fishing, sports shooting and casting demonstrations. Exhibitors and demonstrations at the Baton Rouge site will include the Red Stick Fly Fishers, Louisiana Hiking Club, J.B. Salter's Jiggin Demonstration, Louisiana Wildlife Federation, Louisiana Safety Council, Ducks Unlimited, Quality Deer Management Association, a live snake and alligator display plus many more. A tasting booth will feature area chefs preparing and serving wild game and seafood samples to the public free of charge.

Activities for the Minden NHFD event include archery range instruction, skeet shooting, a casting tournament, mountain bike trail rides, craft displays and information tables staffed by Ducks Unlimited, Delta Waterfowl, Bayou State Bowhunters and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

For the Forest Hill NHFD youth fishing segment, participants should bring their own bait and fishing gear. Activities at the Woodworth segment include a Civil War re-enactment, falconry demonstrations, alligator skinning demonstrations, flint knapping, target shooting with shotguns, .22 rifles, muzzeloaders and air rifles and archery target shooting. A live snake display, rock wall climbing, retriever dog demos and hay rides will also be provided.

The Monroe event will offer activities such as bait casting, BB gun, archery, fishing and shotgun target shooting. Exhibitors will include the U.S. Fish and Wildlife, LDWF, Department of Natural Resources, LifeShare Blood Center, Twin City Longbeards, Ouachita Parish Sheriffs Office (DARE), Conwood Company, La. National Guard, Hamby's Collar Shop, American Veterans & Family Support, La. Alligator Hunter & Trappers Association, Knives by Stein Baughman, La Purchase Gardens and Zoo, and many more.

The Baton Rouge event is sponsored by American Awnings and Tents, Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Foundation, The Advocate, Baton Rouge Coca-Cola Bottling Company and Associated Grocers.
