LOUISIANA HOUSE AND SENATE NATURAL RESOURCES COMMITTEE MEMBERS TO MEET WITH LOUISIANA BLUE CRAB INDUSTRY LEADERS FOR CRAB EDUCATION DAY

Topics of discussion include the state of the Louisiana blue crab industry, which is the number one blue crab industry in the nation, has a total economic effect of more than $290 million for the state of Louisiana and creates more than 3,000 jobs.




Who: Louisiana House and Senate Natural Resources Committee members, Louisiana crab industry leaders and representatives from the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.




What: Tour of commercial crabbing vessels, review of active commercial crab fishing operations and tour of Pontchartrain Blue Crab's plant facilities in Slidell.




When and Where: Friday, October 9.

10 a.m. Arrive at Pontchartrain Blue Crabs, 38327 Salt Bayou Rd., Slidell, Louisiana 70461.

10:30 a.m. Depart Pontchartrain Blue Crabs to go out on commercial crab fishing vessels.

11:45 a.m. Return to Pontchartrain Blue Crabs for tour of facility, including picking, cooking and packing operations.

12:45 p.m. Depart Pontchartrain Blue Crabs for tour of local soft shell crab shedding facility
