Nov. 30, 2011-- The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) will host a public meeting on Friday, Dec. 9 in Morganza to provide an update on Louisiana Black Bear recovery efforts and research.
The meeting will be held at the Point Coupee Communications Center, 7011 Mitchell Lane in Morganza and will begin at 6 p.m.
In addition, department personnel will provide landowners and hunting clubs with information regarding hunting in areas occupied by bears. The Louisiana Black Bear was listed under the Endangered Species Act in 1992 as a threatened species.LDWF began a population dynamics study in 2006 and has results for the Tensas Parish and Pointe Coupee Parish subpopulations.
