The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries has scheduled an aerial herbicide application on Lake Bistineau for Thursday, September 28, weather permitting, to control large expanses of giant salvinia that are inhibiting access in Lake Bistineau.
The aerial application is intended to treat selected areas where giant salvinia growth is particularly heavy, encompassing roughly 500 acres in total. The designated spray area includes the Gregg Lake area of Lake Bistineau.
These herbicides are approved by the EPA for use in aquatic environments.
LDWF asks that boaters avoid the application area during this time. Recreational activities will not be restricted on other areas of the lake.
