LEEC Grant Proposals Released Monday, Jan. 7

The Louisiana Environmental Education Commission will release its 2019-20 requests for grant proposals next Monday, January 7, 2019. Grant categories include: 
  • Educator Grants - Based on sound scientific principles, have an environmental focus, and be designed to directly impact Louisiana students - Those eligible: Accredited K-12 Louisiana schools - Maximum award: $1,000 for 1 teacher or $2,000 for a team 
  • Professional Development Grants - Based on sound scientific principles, have an environmental focus, and be designed to directly impact preservice and/or in-service educators in Louisiana - Those eligible: Louisiana education, state, or environmental agencies, colleges, universities, or 501(C)(3) nonprofit organizations - Maximum award: $2,500
  • University Research Grants - Post-graduate research with a focus on environmental issues - Those eligible: Students attending Louisiana colleges or universities and who are working toward a Masters, Ph.D., or conducting Ph.D. research are eligible to apply on behalf of their school - Maximum award: $1,200
  • Green Schools Grants - Supports projects designed to reduce a school’s environmental impact, reduce health disparities that can aggravate achievement gaps, and engage students in hands-on learning. Proposals to be considered are those that align with pillars found in the U.S. Department of Education’s Green Ribbon Schools Program: http://www.wlf.louisiana.gov/green-schools-pillars-and-elements - Those eligible: Accredited K-12 Louisiana schools - Maximum award: $5,000

Keep America Celebrates 65 Years

For decades, Keep America Beautiful and more than 600 community-based affiliates have been working at the grassroots level to revitalize blighted neighborhoods, restore vacant lots, renew communities struck by natural disasters, and bring beauty to our shared public spaces.  In honor of its 65th anniversary, KAB is asking for your help to #DoBeautifulThings. A contribution to Keep America Beautiful provides them with greater capacity to:
  • Reach their 2019 goal to clean, improve and beautify 100,000 miles of roads, parks, shorelines and waterways across the nation
  • Plant trees in a storm-damaged park
  • Restore a neglected urban play area into a clean, safe and vibrant park that fosters community pride
  • And much, much more!

U.S. Green Building Council - Best of Green Schools

The Best of Green Schools celebrates the hard work being done—by people, schools, campuses and organizations—to push the green schools movement forward. If you or someone you know is making significant strides toward creating more sustainable schools, USGBC wants to hear from you. You are welcome to submit nominations both for yourself and others. The call for nominations closes at 11:59 p.m. ET on Fri., January 18, 2019. Winners will be announced and awards given at the 2019 Green Schools Conference and Expo, to be held April 8–9 in Saint Paul, Minnesota.

Register for LEEC's Regional Short Course Event

There's still time to register for LEEC's 2019 Regional Short Course Event. Celebrating this year's theme "What's Great About Your Part of the State," The commission is hosting 13 different short courses on February 16, 2019 in every corner of Louisiana. Whether you attend the course in your own community or any other around the state, you're sure to find this day enjoyable and enlightening! The registration fee is $20, but current classroom teachers qualify for a $30 stipend. And lunch is on us!
