For the second year in a row LDWF staff participated in Swamp Stomp, part of the annual Tresors du Bayou festival at Nicholls State University. This event is an excellent opportunity for us to spread the word about T&E species to children in the Thibodaux area. As with last year, our focus was on the Louisiana black bear and whooping cranes. The third LDWF "staff member" is a full mounted bear (pictured above) which is always a huge hit! Students appreciate the opportunity to see a Louisiana black bear upclose and to have their picture taken with it. Most students do not realize that this is not only a T&E species, but also our state mammal. So again it's a great opportunity to get the word out about this magnificent species of animal!
The outreach season is upon us, so hopefully I will see you out and about at one of my upcoming events. Next on the list is this Saturday March 29th in Lafayette. I will be participating in the Family Fun day: http://www.healing-house.org/PageDisplay.asp?p1=4016
Hope to see you there!
