White Lake Wetlands Conservation Area Fishing/Boating and Hunting Lotteries

All participants in White Lake lottery hunting or fishing MUST NOW POSSESS A WMA ACCESS PERMIT. 

Fishing/Boating

Applications for fishing/boating permits are available online early January and must be submitted in early February. If you are selected, you may purchase an annual White Lake Wetlands Conservation Area Fishing/Boating Permit for $40. This permit allows you to access the area by motorboat, canoe, or kayak. You may boat and fish from sunrise to sunset from March 15 through August 15 of the respective year.

Permit Rules:

  • Boating and fishing will be allowed in the Florence Canal and Oil Field Location Canals off of the Florence Canal ONLY. 
  • There will be no boating or fishing in any of the marsh areas or in the main Camp canal or other areas that are marked “Restricted Use”. 
  • All boats will be limited to a maximum of 40 horsepower motor. 
  • All “No Wake” signs must be obeyed.
  • Boating and fishing must be done from boat only. Access to levees or docks is restricted.
  • Rod and reel sport fishing only (no archery fishing, trot lines, jug lines, etc.).
  • Holder of the permit must be present (permit not transferrable).
  • There will be no boat launching from the White Lake properties. (Permittee must use public boat launch.)
  • Permit holder must have permit and boat decal.
  • Any violations of Louisiana boating or fishing regulations or any rule violations will result in immediate termination of permit.
  • Permittee will not be allowed to enter onto White Lake Wetlands Conservation Area until sunrise and must exit the property by sunset.
  • No firearms allowed on premises.

Hunting

Applications for White Lake lottery hunts are available online after hunting seasons are determined, typically around the following periods:

Teal Lottery Hunts

Teal Lottery Hunts are conducted in the area’s hunting marsh. Hunts are limited to the selected applicant and a guest. The two hunters will hunt as one group in a blind. The total cost is $250. Each morning that a hunt is offered, five separate groups will go out on teal hunts. LDWF provides boat transportation to and from the blinds, guides to call and retrieve birds, and a short tour of the lodge.

Teal hunt participants must arrive at the designated parking area at the designated time, as outlined on the notification letter sent to selected applicants. Hunting will end no later than 9 am. All participants should be back at their vehicles by 10:30 am.

Youth Lottery Hunts

Youth Lottery Hunts are offered during the waterfowl youth weekend and are conducted in the area’s hunting marsh. Hunts are limited to the selected youth applicant and an accompanying parent or guardian. Applicants must be between 10 and 17 years of age on their selected hunt date. In addition, all applicants must have a certificate showing they have satisfactorily completed an LDWF-approved Hunter Education Course. The youth hunter will hunt from a blind with their parent or guardian, but the parent or guardian is not allowed to hunt during the youth hunt. These hunts are free of charge. Eight youth hunters are selected for each day of the waterfowl youth weekend. LDWF provides boat transportation to and from the blinds, guides to call and retrieve birds, and breakfast at the lodge.

Youth Hunt participants must arrive at the designated parking area at the designated time, as outlined on the notification letter sent to selected applicants. Hunting will end no later than 9 am. All participants should be back at their vehicles by 11:30 am. 

Marsh Lottery Hunts

Marsh Lottery Hunts are conducted in the area’s hunting marsh. Hunts are limited to the selected applicant and a guest. The two hunters will hunt from a blind as one group. The total cost is $350. Each morning that a hunt is offered, five separate groups will go out on waterfowl hunts. LDWF provides boat transportation to and from the blinds, guides to call and retrieve birds, and a short tour of the lodge.

Marsh hunt participants must arrive at the designated parking area at the designated time, as outlined on the notification letter sent to selected applicants. Hunting will end no later than 9 am. All participants should be back at their vehicles by 10:30 am.

Rice Field Lottery Hunts

Rice Field Lottery Hunts are conducted on the area’s agricultural property. Hunts are limited to the selected applicant, two guests, and a retrieving dog, although the dog is not necessary. The three hunters will hunt as one group from a blind. The total cost is $225. Each morning that a hunt is offered, three groups will go out on rice field hunts. LDWF provides the hunting blind, decoys, and transportation to and from the levee where the blind is buried. Guides are not provided, so the hunters must bring duck and goose calls and a set of waders or hip boots to retrieve birds. Hunters may bring their own battery-powered mechanical decoys. Hunt results are typically affected by hunter experience, calling ability, and attentiveness.

Rice field hunt participants must arrive at the designated parking area at the designated time, as outlined on the notification letter sent to selected applicants. Hunting will end no later than 9 am. All participants should be back at their vehicles by 10:30 am.
