Federal Hurricane Disaster Assistance for Fisheries
Per Congressional appropriation, hurricane disaster funding includes:
Congressional Supplemental Appropriation #1 Assistance programs to rehabilitate the fisheries. Supplemental appropriation includes, but not limited to, the following programs: Click on the link above to find out about the following programs:
Private Oyster Lease Rehabilitation (POLR) Program Public Oyster Seed Ground Rehabilitation Debris Removal from Traditional Fishing Ground
Cooperative Research Program-Fishermen and Dealer Surveys-April 17, 2009 Program's aimed at assisting recovery of Louisiana's commercial fisheries through cooperative reseach conducted by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and the commercial fishing industry. Eligibility is based on participants having held a Louisiana resident commercial fishing license or wholesale/retail dealer license in 2008 and trip ticket landings/purchases between September 1, 2005 and August 31, 2008. All applicable forms must be returned and postmarked no later than June 30, 2009.
Congressional Supplemental Appropriation #2 Programs aimed at assisting recovery of Louisiana's commercial and recreational fisheries. These programs are providing direct financial assistance to eligible resident commercial fishermen, certain commercial fishing vessel license holders, wholesale/retail seafood dealers and licensed charter boat fishing guides. Assistance to the recreational fishing sector includes improvements and development of fish hatcheries for expanded fish stocking programs and development of greater fishing opportunities and fishing access.
