Benton Intermediate School’s Korie Gallagher shot 282 to win the girl’s elementary school bullseye division in the National Archery in Schools Program (NASP) Western National Championship held in Sandy, Utah, on April 26-27. Gallagher helped lead Benton Intermediate to second place in the NASP Bullseye Tournament in the elementary division.
Gallagher and Benton Intermediate participate in the Archery in Louisiana Schools program (ALAS), administered by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and sponsored by the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Foundation.
Paxton Cassel of Benton Intermediate School and Jack Wilwert of Airline High also claimed national titles in the event. Cassel was the boy’s elementary school division champion in the 3D Tournament, firing a 275 score, and Wilwert shot 289 to finish first in the high school division of the Centershot 3D Tournament.
J.I. Barron Sr. Elementary won first place in the elementary school Centershot 3D tournament division.
The ALAS Program is part of NASP and is designed to teach students in grades 4-12 international target style archery. The ALAS/NASP program is available to all schools in Louisiana and grants are available to assist with funding.
