A Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agent cited two subjects for alleged hunting violations on Sept. 30 in Grant Parish.

Sgt. James Bruce cited Trenton Strong, 18, of Pineville, and Ricky Wise Jr., 19, of Colfax, for hunting squirrels during a closed season.

Sgt. Bruce received information about closed season squirrel hunting activity off Hudson Creek Road near Colfax on Sept. 30.  Sgt. Bruce made contact with the subjects and found them in possession of four freshly harvested squirrels that were harvested from the property behind their residence.

Sgt. Bruce seized the four squirrels and donated them to a local charity.  Squirrel season opens statewide on Oct. 7.

Hunting squirrels during a closed season brings a $250 to $500 fine and up to 90 days in jail.  The subjects may also face civil restitution totaling $81 for the replacement value of the illegally taken squirrels.
