Grand Isle Fisheries Research Lab
LDWF’s Fisheries Research Lab is situated on the north shore of Grand Isle - Louisiana’s only inhabited barrier island - with direct access to both Barataria Bay and the Gulf of America. This location provides LDWF biologists the unique opportunity to conduct fisheries research and monitor fish populations in any of Louisiana’s inshore, nearshore, or offshore habitats. The Fisheries Research Lab is also home to LDWF’s Reproductive Biology Lab, which examines the reproductive status of Louisiana’s important recreational and commercial species. Together, these projects gather data necessary to support the management of Louisiana’s marine resources.
Fisheries Research Lab biologists also cooperate with other state and federal agencies to conduct offshore fishery monitoring of federally managed species and educate the public about their research.
Located at 195 Ludwig Annex, the lab hosts tours of the facility as well as visiting researchers conducting fieldwork in the area. Call 985.787.2163 for additional information.
