Shooting sports play a vital role in introducing new participants to hunting by building safe firearm skills, confidence, and a lifelong appreciation for wildlife conservation. LDWF supports this tradition by offering high-quality shooting range facilities across the state, providing accessible, safe places for training, practice, and hunter recruitment.
Accessing LDWF's Shooting Ranges When on a Wildlife Management Area
All WMA visitors must have a valid WMA Access Permit, Senior Hunting/Fishing License, Louisiana Sportsman’s Paradise License, or a Lifetime Hunting/Fishing License to visit any LDWF WMA, Refuge, or Conservation Area, including LDWF Shooting Ranges, for any reason. This permit only authorizes access onto the property—it does NOT convey hunting or fishing privileges.
A Self-Clearing Permit is required to use any LDWF shooting range, except for the Honey Island Shooting Range, where users must check in with range personnel upon arrival at the range. Range users may obtain this permit electronically through the LDWF Self-Clearing Permit App (Download from the app from Apple or the app from Google Play), or in-person from Self-Clearing Permit stations on site.
See exceptions at the link below.
Archery in Louisiana Schools
Archery in Louisiana Schools (ALAS) is a part of the National Archery in the Schools Program, which introduces students in grades 4 through 12 to international target-style archery. The program is designed to be taught as part of the school’s curriculum, such as in the school’s physical education program.
Archery is a great way to get students involved in not only a lifelong sport but also in their school and in the outdoors. ALAS seeks to inspire confidence in students through the focus and discipline required by archery.
