A small garden snake- 5 to 9 inches long. Pale tan above with a pink cast below. Top of head is slightly darker than the body. Tiny eyes. Smooth scales in 15 rows.
Range and Habitat
Found in upland pine-oak woodlands in central and northern Louisiana.
Behavior
Remain below the ground most of the time but occasionally come to the surface under rocks and logs. Feed on centipedes, larvae, spiders, and scorpions. Lay 1 to 4 eggs.
Population Status
Ranked as S4 (apparently secure) in Louisiana.
