The Waddill Wildlife Refuge in Baton Rouge has opened a new elevated archery tower, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) announced. The previous tower was heavily damaged by Hurricane Ida in 2021. Office of Wildlife employees from the Monroe Field Office and Education Section constructed the tower.
The refuge is located at 4142 North Flannery Road in Baton Rouge and is opened from 7:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday.
The archery range rules are as follows:
- No broadheads allowed (fieldpoints only)
- All users under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult 18 or older.
- All persons using the archery tower must use a full-body fall arrest harness manufactured to meet the standards recognized by the Treestand Manufactures’ Association.
- Only two people allowed at a time on the archery tower.
- All refuge users older than 17 must possess a Wildlife Management Area (WMA) Access Permit, included with Lifetime, Louisiana Sportsman’s and Senior Hunt/Fish licenses, and all users regardless of age must comply with the daily self-clearing permit requirement.
