This free boating course usually lasts between 6 and 8 hours. Participants usually complete the course in one day. The course includes information on choosing a boat, classification, hulls, motors, legal and equipment requirements, navigation rules, navigation charts, trailering, sailboats, and related subjects that include canoeing, personal watercraft and more. Participants who complete the course will receive a Boater Education Certificate.

New Orleans Power Squadron will instruct the American Boating Course on Saturday, 18 October 2025. We ask students to show up at 0845; class will commence at 0900. Class should wrap up around 1630. Graduates will receive a certificate of completion from the US Power Squadron and the Louisiana Boating Education Certificate.
