Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents are investigating a fatal boating incident that took place in Iberia Parish on March 8.

 

The body of Eric Delcambre, 35, of New Iberia, was recovered from the Avery Canal around 8:30 p.m. on March 8.

 

According to the survivors, Delcambre was operating a 17-foot boat with three passengers when they began taking on water around 6:30 p.m. ejecting Delcambre and two passengers into the water.  The two passengers were able to swim to the bank, but Delcambre was unable to make it to the bank.

 

LDWF agents and the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office participated in the search.

 

LDWF will be the lead investigative agency for this fatal boating incident.  Delcambre’s body was recovered without a personal flotation device.  His body was turned over to the Iberia Parish Coroner’s office to determine an official cause of death.
