Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents are investigating a fatal boating incident that occurred in LaSalle Parish on Jan. 12.

The body of Hugh E. Edwards, 69, of Jena, was recovered from the Little River around 1:30 a.m. on Jan. 13. His body was turned over to the LaSalle Parish Coroner’s Office to determine an official cause of death.

Agents were notified about a missing boater around 9:30 p.m. on Jan. 12. Agents found Edwards’ unmanned aluminum vessel around 10:15 p.m. on the Little River. Agents were assisted in the search by the LaSalle Parish Sheriff’s Office and local fire departments.

The LDWF Enforcement Division will be the leading investigative agency for this fatal recreational boating incident. Edwards’ body was found without wearing a personal flotation device. It is unknown at this time what caused Edwards to go overboard.
