Louisiana Needlefly

Description

A species of roll-winged stonefly. Has terrestrial, flighted adults and aquatic larvae. Thin, elongate, and less than 0.5 inches long.

Range and Habitat

Found in a very small portion of the Red River drainage in north central Louisiana. Occurs in and near streams.

Behavior

Very little is known about this species. Larvae typically remain hidden in sediment of streams. 

Population Status

Ranked globablly as G1 (critically imperiled), ranked as S1 (critically imperiled) in Louisiana due to its extremely restricted range and partially aquatic life cycle.
