Courses are taught by LDWF Education Program staff and volunteer instructors. The majority of courses are taught by volunteers who donate their time to teach hunter education. Volunteers undergo background checks and receive training and oversight from LDWF staff. Requirements for Becoming a Hunter Education Instructor • Be of reputable character • Attend a 12 hour instructor training course • Complete livefire exercises • Pass a written exam • Undergo a criminal background check • Teach or assist in teaching one course every 24 months.

Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries will be hosting a Hunter Education Instructor Course at St. Martin Sheriff Office training academy in St. Martinville. In order to become a Hunter Education Instructor, you must pass a background check.
