Members of the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) Executive staff and Enforcement Division had the opportunity to tour the West Bank Fishing Operations and Daybrook Processing Plant on May 22 in Plaquemines Parish.

“Commercial fisheries are vital to the Louisiana economy,” said LDWF Secretary Madison Sheahan. “As Secretary, it is my duty to the people of Louisiana and to the Department to understand the industries within Louisiana regulated by the Department to ensure the health of our fisheries and the habitats needed to support them. I am grateful for the first-hand experience of one of our state’s toughest jobs.”

These companies provide crucial jobs to the Plaquemines Parish community and surrounding areas. While on the tour, LDWF Executive staff and Enforcement Division agents were able to see the by-catch study in action, getting a transparent look into the work being done to study the effects of this industry on other fisheries.

LDWF would like to thank Francois Kuttle and his staff for the opportunity to review the actions Westbank is taking to comply with recent regulations passed by LDWF Commission.
