Mandatory Oyster Harvester Training

Before applying for an Oyster Harvester License, all oyster harvesters must complete the online oyster harvester training. Oyster harvesters must take this training every three years.

Currently, the Time/Temp “Hours to Refrigeration” is not updated in the above training program; the new 'Time/Temp Hours to Refrigeration'  can be found here.  This course will provide a detailed overview of the Louisiana Shellfish Sanitation Program, Chapter 3 of Part IX of Title 51 of the Louisiana Administrative Code, “Preparation and Handling of Seafood for Market,” and cover the legalities and best management practices of oyster fishing, including but not limited to, licensing and permitting requirements, oyster harvest regulations, reporting requirements, responsible fishing, and vessel operation; as required by the NSSP Model Ordinance. The information in this training may not be up to date, and it is the responsibility of the oyster harvester to check on current regulations through the Louisiana Department of Health website and LDWF commercial fishing regulations.

  • Enter your first and last name, email (optional), last four digits of your Social Security number, and your Commercial Fisherman’s License number.
  • Watch the video and answer a minimum of 80% of the questions correctly to pass.
  • The training should take about 1 hour. A certificate of completion will be sent to your email address and logged with LDWF.
  • It takes 24 to 48 hours for the system to update, so be sure to finish the video at least three days before you apply for a license. Your commercial oyster harvester license will be unavailable to purchase in our licensing database unless you have completed your oyster harvester training within the previous three years.

Yes, assistance is allowed, but the license applicant must enter their information when logging into the course and they must answer the questions.
No. You can take a break during the video by clicking the pause button, but do not close the active window until you complete the course.
