Description
A rooted, vining plant that forms mats extending outward from the shoreline. Has shiny green, elliptical leaves that are opposite and simple and can grow up to 4 inches in length. Its flowering stems are upright. Produces a white flower with five petals, blooming from April through October.
Range and Habitat
Introduced into the United States from South America in the early 1900s. Lives in warm freshwater areas across Louisiana.
Behavior
Can multiply into incredibly dense mats, clogging waterways and preventing shoreline access.
