LDWF is hosting an Aquatic VIP Workshop on Wednesday, July 15, 2026 from 3:00PM-8:00PM at the Ponchatoula Area Recreation District 1 facility (19030 Ponchatoula Park Drive, Ponchatoula, LA 70454). LDWF's Aquatic Volunteer Instructor Program (VIP) trains participants to become Volunteer Instructors through a hands-on workshop run by LDWF staff. Topics that are covered include fish anatomy, fish identification, fishing assistance, marine debris, and more. Certified instructors (aka VIPs) will have free access to activity guides, lesson plans, equipment, and other educational resources. VIPs are essentially an extension of LDWF's Outreach and Education section and allow LDWF to educate more youth and adults across the state about Louisiana's aquatic and fisheries resources. The information provided in this workshop can easily be incorporated into various fishing and aquatic clinics/events. To become a certified instructor participants must attend a workshop, pass course and policy tests, and pass a background check. Contact Erin Olson (eolson@wlf.la.gov) for questions.
