Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents arrested a Lockport man for alleged deer hunting violations in Lafourche Parish on Dec. 31, 2019.

Agents arrested Brent Loupe, 32, for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, resisting arrest, hunting deer during a closed season, over the daily limit of deer, hunting deer during illegal hours, and possession of untagged deer.

Agents received a complaint that Loupe had taken two antlerless deer at night on Dec. 30 near Lockport.  Agents immediately went to Loupe’s residence on the morning of Dec. 31 where they observed two freshly harvested antlerless deer on Loupe’s property.  Agents also found that Loupe was a convicted felon and in possession of a .270 caliber rifle that he used to harvest the two deer.

During the first arrest attempt, Loupe resisted the agents.  Agents were then able to arrest Loupe and book him into the Lafourche Parish Jail.

Agents seized the deer and donated them to a local charity and also seized the .270 caliber rifle.

Illegally possessing a firearm by a convicted felon brings a $1,000 to $5,000 fine and 10 to 20 years in jail.  Resisting arrest carries up to a $500 fine and six months in jail.

Hunting deer during a closed season and hunting deer during illegal hours brings a $900 to $950 fine and up to 120 days in jail for each offense.  Taking over the daily limit of deer carries a $250 to $500 fine and up to 90 days in jail.  Possession of untagged deer brings a $100 to $350 fine and up to 60 days in jail.

Loupe may also face civil restitution totaling $3,249 for the replacement value of the illegally taken deer.
