Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Enforcement Division agents wrote 24 citations for alleged recreational fishing violations in Plaquemines Parish on July 25 and 26.
Agents encountered several charter fishing vessels in the Venice area coming back from their fishing trips in the Gulf of America. Agents performed license and compliance checks on the vessels and found the passengers in possession of red snapper and yellowfin tuna.
During the inspections, agents found 12 non-resident anglers on various charter trips without their required fishing licenses. The 12 subjects were cited for failing to possess non-resident basic and saltwater fishing licenses.
LDWF would like to remind the public that anyone 18 years of age and older is required to possess the required Louisiana fishing licenses if chartering a fishing boat. That means a person chartering a boat must possess the three-day charter guide license that covers both basic and saltwater licenses, or possess a basic fishing license if fishing in freshwater, or basic fishing and saltwater fishing licenses if fishing in saltwater.
Agents seized 34 red snapper and one yellowfin tuna and donated them to a local charity.
Fishing without a non-resident basic fishing license and without a non-resident saltwater fishing license brings up to a $350 fine for each offense.
The subjects may also face civil restitution totaling $1,413.
Agents involved in the cases are Sgt. Justin Sonnier, Sgt. Tobey Meyers, Sgt. Brody Roberts, and Corporal Dalton Herrington.
