Agents Cite Subject for Turkey Hunting Violations on Pomme de Terre WMA

- Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents cited a subject for alleged turkey hunting violations on April 25 in Avoyelles Parish.

Agents cited Ricky L. Lemoine, 56, of St. Amant, for hunting turkeys over a baited area, hunting without turkey tags in possession, placing bait on a Wildlife Management Area (WMA), using a trail camera on a WMA during an open turkey season and operating an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) off of a designated trail.

Agents received a complaint about an individual who was operating an ATV on the Pomme de Terre WMA to turkey hunt and harvested a turkey overlooking a feeder containing cracked corn.

Agents conducted an investigation and learned that Lemoine harvested the turkey from a ground blind over the baited area on the Pomme de Terre WMA. Agents met with Lemoine and he admitted to accessing the baited area on his ATV and harvesting the turkey over the baited area on the morning of April 25. Lemoine also failed to possess turkey tags.

Hunting turkeys over a baited area brings a $250 to $500 fine and up to 90 days in jail. Hunting without turkey tags in possession, placing bait on a WMA, using a trail camera on a WMA during an open turkey season and operating an ATV off of a designated trail carries up to a $350 fine for each offense.

Lemoine will also face civil restitution totaling $775 for the replacement value of the illegally taken turkey.

Agents participating in this case are Sgt. Raymond Davis, Sgt. Doug Anderson, Sgt. Randy Lanoux, Corporal Jeremiah Fletcher, Corporal Ryan Durand, Corporal Lloyd Pearson and Corporal Brent Hebert.
