Deer hunting season will be closed beginning Tuesday (Jan. 21) on all lands east of the west Mississippi River levee in East Carroll Parish due to flooding, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries announced. A declaration of emergency has been signed enacting the closure.

The closure will remain in effect until the Mississippi River level recedes to 41 feet mean sea level (msl) at Vicksburg, Miss.

The portion of land effected by the closure is within Deer Area 1.
