Federal Funding Available to Provide Boat Sewage Disposal Opportunities in Louisiana

- The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) is now accepting applications for Clean Vessel Act grants.  The United States Fish and Wildlife Service designed this grant program to provide grants to States and Territories for pumpout stations and waste reception facilities to safely dispose of recreational boater sewage.

The Clean Vessel Act Program provides funding to marina operators and local governmental entities to cover up to 75% of the cost of installing or renovating boat sewage disposal facilities.  Most costs are eligible for reimbursement under these grants including design and engineering, permits, equipment, electrical/water/sewage hookups, and construction/installation.  This program will not fund the purchase and/or installation of sewage treatment plants or systems.

LDWF may apply for up to $1,500,000 for coastal activities and $1,500,000 for inland activities; however, any level of funding will be evaluated and compete on a national level.  More information regarding the Boat Sewage Disposal/Clean Vessel Act Grants can be found here.

The Federal Notice of Funding Opportunity is available here.  However, applicants should use this for informational purposes only.  Applications must be submitted through the LDWF online application portal found here.  Applications for the Clean Vessel Act Program must be submitted to LDWF on or before June 22, 2026, to be considered for the current funding cycle.
