The Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission (LWFC) will meet Thursday (Feb. 6) at the Homer Hitt Alumni Center on the campus of UNO in New Orleans. Among the agenda items will be discussion on and possible amendments to the 2025-26 hunting regulation notice of intent the Commission passed during its January meeting.
The notice of intent includes proposed hunting season dates and regulation changes from the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) for the upcoming hunting seasons and provide for a public comment period.
Some of the proposed changes include:
- No daily limit for recreationally hunted nutria from Sept. 1 through the last day of February;
- A federally mandated nine-day September teal season (Sept. 20-28);
- A trail camera ban on WMAs;
- Reducing the West Zone duck season splits from three segments to two;
- Modifies the Youth and Veteran’s waterfowl hunts days for the East and West Zones;
- Allows hunters 65 and older to use any legal firearm to take deer during the primitive firearm season;
- Removes Highway 11 night-time closure on Pearl River WMA;
Additionally, LDWF will report to the Commission the results of a survey asking hunters about their date preferences for the 2025 dove hunting season.
