Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents cited a Lafayette man for alleged deer hunting violations in Vermilion Parish on Jan. 4.

Agents cited Scott Dailey, 39, for failing to comply with deer tagging regulations and failing to comply with deer harvest validation regulations.

Agents received information in early November of 2019 about a large antlered deer being harvested in Forked Island in Vermilion Parish.  During the course of the investigation, agents learned that Dailey harvested the eight-point deer on Oct. 19, 2019 and failed to tag and validate the deer for at least two months prior to getting the citations.

Agents also discovered that Dailey did not acquire deer tags until after he harvested the deer on Oct. 19, 2019.

Regulations stipulate that deer hunters must possess deer tags while hunting, must tag a harvested deer immediately upon harvest and validate the deer within 72 hours of harvest.

Agents seized the eight-point deer mount.

Failing to comply with deer tagging regulations and deer harvest validation regulations each brings a $100 to $350 fine and up to 60 days in jail for each offense.

Dailey may also face civil restitution totaling $2,033 for the replacement value of the illegally harvested deer.
