Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) enforcement agent cited two subjects for alleged commercial crabbing violations in Lafourche Parish on Feb. 16.
The agent cited Hong Tran, 48, of Cut Off, and Phillip Tran, 54, of Cut Off, for possessing over the limit of immature female crabs.
Corporal Troy Autin was on patrol in Little Lake around 11 a.m. when he observed Hong Tran in a commercial crab vessel actively tending crab traps. The agent made contact with Hong Tran to perform a compliance check. The agent found that Hong Tran possessed over the legal limit of immature female crabs.
Corporal Autin seized about 180 pounds of crabs from Hong Tran and returned them to the water.
Around 1 p.m., Corporal Autin was on patrol in Hackberry Bay when he observed Phillip Tran in a commercial crab vessel actively tending crab traps. The agent made contact with Phillip Tran to perform a compliance check. The agent found that Phillip Tran possessed over the legal limit of immature female crabs.
Corporal Autin seized about 300 pounds of crabs from Phillip Tran and returned them to the water.
According commercial crabbing regulations, it is illegal to possess more than five percent of immature female crabs from a random sample of 50 crabs.
Possessing over the limit of immature female crabs brings a $400 to $950 fine and up to 120 days in jail.
