Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) enforcement agents arrested a subject for alleged driving violations on Dec. 16 in Ouachita Parish.
Agents arrested Omar Yanez-Tovar, 24, of Mexico, for driving while impaired (DWI), improper lane usage, and not possessing a driver’s license.
LDWF Sgt. Tyler Wheeler was on patrol around 9 p.m. on Dec. 16 on Hwy. 594 when he initiated a traffic stop on a pickup truck for improper lane usage. During the stop, Sgt. Wheeler detected that Yanez-Tovar was impaired. Sgt. Wheeler also found that Yanez-Tovar did not possess a driver’s license and that his Visa had expired.
Sgt. Wheeler booked Yanez-Tovar into the Ouachita Parish Correctional Facility. While at the correctional facility, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers were informed about his expired Visa.
DWI brings a $300 to $1,000 fine and 10 days to six months in jail. Driving a vehicle without a driver’s license and improper lane usage carries up to a $175 fine and 30 days in jail for each offense.
Agents participating in this case are Sgt. Tyler Wheeler and Senior Agent Mollyann Moore, with assistance from a Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office Deputy.
