Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents are investigating a fatal boating incident that occurred in Iberville Parish on July 11.

The body of Leonard C. Williams, 59, of Baton Rouge, was recovered from Cross Bayou on July 11.

According to the two other passengers in the boat, Williams was operating a 15-foot vessel in Cross Bayou when the vessel began taking on water, which led to the men entering the water.  The two passengers were wearing personal flotation devices (PFD) and were pulled from the water by a good Samaritan in a vessel.  Williams was not wearing a PFD and never resurfaced.

Williams’ body was later recovered by the Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office and turned over to the Iberville Parish Coroner’s Office to determine an official cause of death.

LDWF will be the lead investigative agency for this fatal boating incident.
