The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries has closed several roads to vehicle traffic at the Richard K. Yancey Wildlife Management Area (WMA) because of flooding.
The closures include Hogpen Lake Road, Lac-A-Sostien Road, Ross Road, Wycoff Road, Goose Lake Road, Shell Road, Catfish Bayou Road, Moreau Lake Road, Dobbs Bay Road, East Cocodrie Boat Launch Road and Hunt Road. Blount Road is also closed beginning at a point approximately 5.5 miles from the Red River Levee. Additionally, all roads on the east side of the Mississippi River Levee remain closed at this time.
While the WMA will remain open to current hunting seasons, users are asked to comply with road closures deemed necessary to ensure safety and prevent road damage.
Increasing water levels in associated river systems has caused backwater flooding on these thoroughfares. Once the water recedes, LDWF will inspect, repair and reopen those thoroughfares when deemed safe for travel.
Richard K. Yancey WMA is located approximately 35 miles south of Ferriday on La. Hwy. 15 in lower Concordia Parish.
